Root Canal Retreatments

Our team provides root canal retreatment when your initial treatment fails to fully restore your tooth. When you receive a retreatment, our dentists will remove the infection so that your tooth can recover and you can avoid the need for an extraction and tooth replacement. Call Prairie Walk Dental at 630-968-5078 to set up an appointment with our dentists and learn more about root canal retreatment in Lisle, Illinois.

If your tooth has suffered from infection or disease in the past, you may have undergone root canal therapy. In some cases, however, the root canal treatment may not have completely solved the problem. After root canal therapy, your tooth may become infected and painful once again in a matter of months or even years. This may occur if your tooth did not heal properly after root canal therapy or if a new infection has taken root in your tooth. Your tooth may not heal as expected if complicated canal anatomy went undetected during the first treatment or if the crown or other restoration was not placed directly after the endodontic treatment. No matter the reason, if the tooth has again become infected and painful, our dentists may recommend root canal retreatment.

During root canal retreatment, which is sometimes called endodontic retreatment, our dentists will reopen the tooth, remove the filling materials that were placed during the first treatment and carefully examine the tooth. We pay special attention to new infection or additional canals that were not treated during your initial root canal therapy. We then remove the infection, clean and shape the canals, and place new filling material. Finally, the opening in the tooth is sealed with a temporary filling. After the tooth has healed, we will place a new crown or other restoration to protect the tooth. To learn more about root canal retreatment and discover whether it is right for your smile, we encourage you to contact our friendly team by calling or visiting our office today.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are dental implants safe?

Yes, dental implants are absolutely safe. They’re made from biocompatible materials to integrate naturally with your body and promote your health. The implant procedure is highly successful and complications are rare.

When you lose a tooth, your jawbone eventually weakens and leads to a myriad of issues. These include a weakened bite, increased risk for oral diseases, and decreased self-confidence, as you may begin to look older.

Dental implants are the only tooth replacement solution that can restore jawbone strength and help you look youthful.

Can a sinus lift and implant be done at the same time?

Depending on your oral health and severity of your procedure, a dental implant might be able to be placed at the same time as a sinus augmentation. Sinus lift surgery has proven to increase your chances for successful implants that can last for years to come.

When you visit for your initial consultation, our team will be able to better understand your condition and determine whether or not these two procedures can be done during one appointment.
